Austin Tersteeg: Grain & Agronomy Operations Intern

Austin TersteegWith a strong interest to know more about the agricultural markets, Austin Tersteeg, 19, learns from a cooperative’s perspective as a MaxYield Grain and Agronomy Operations Intern.  Hailing from Olivia, Minnesota, Austin has worked for his family’s ag businesses, ranging from crop and livestock production, to trucking, fertilizer, and waste-water markets.

Q: What have you enjoyed about your Grain and Agronomy Operations internship?

A: I have felt very prepared throughout my internship. They don’t throw you into anything or make you do something that makes you uncomfortable. With day-to-day operations, my team members are a great help teaching me what to do, but they give me freedom to work on my own as well.

Being used to my family producing many crops including peas, sweetcorn, hemp, and sunflowers, it is has been good to focus on Iowa’s main crop commodities during this experience.

Q: How have you benefited by having Dave Hubka as your mentor at MaxYield?

A: Dave is an easy guy to work with. From the beginning, he has done a great job showing me how the elevator system operates and answering my questions.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I am involved with Farmhouse Fraternity at Iowa State University. I am also a member of the Farm Operations and Agricultural Business clubs. I hold the leadership role of event coordinator for the Ag Marketing and Management Organization on campus.
