Grain & Agronomy Operations Internship Shows Tersteeg the Core of Co-op Function

Austin TersteegAustin Tersteeg a sophomore at Iowa State, majoring in Agriculture Business, applied for a MaxYield internship with a goal in mind. “I wanted to learn about the co-op system, and when I found out about MaxYield’s Grain and Agronomy Operations internship I liked that there would be quite a few opportunities to learn about different co-op operations.” Austin shared that visiting the MaxYield location where he could potentially work during his second interview made an even stronger impression.

Q: What have been some of your responsibilities and experiences within your internship?

A: While working at the corn elevator I have loaded semis and rail cars, moved and dried corn. I check sample moisture levels and keep up with general maintenance.

Q: What do you look forward to experiencing on the Agronomy Operations side of your MaxYield internship?

A: I have just had a tour of the fertilizer facility and was amazed at how automated everything is. In the future, I hope to be able to observe how the whole process works, and learn more about the different combinations of fertilizers that the co-op has to offer. I would also like to be able to be out in the field in a spreader and watch as the fertilizer is being applied.

Q: What are your future career goals?

A: I like learning about politics, weather and other things that influence ag markets. My future career goals are to get a job related to marketing, and possibly return home to my family farm.
