My MaxYield Internship: Ryan Flagel

DSC_0391Meet Ryan Flagel – MaxYield’s Grain Operations Intern

What is your role as the grain operations intern? Some of my responsibilities as the grain operations intern include checking bin temperatures, helping empty the bunker, dumping grain, housekeeping, blending grain, and grain grading.

What are some of the things you have learned from your intern experience? I will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of grain elevator operations including MaxYield’s safety culture, various equipment operation, and scale operation. I will also have the chance to work at several MaxYield locations and learn about agronomy.

Who is your mentor and how have they helped you to succeed at your internship? Pat White is my mentor and Dave Hubka is my supervisor.  They have both done a great job of answering all of my questions and helping direct me toward different tasks that are in my interest for future employment.

What is your favorite thing about being in grain operations? I really enjoy being a part of the train loading process. I have already worked on three trains and it has been fun getting to work with different people and trying something new.

How has your MaxYield internship helped you to prepare for a future career? My internship experience at MaxYield has helped me prepare for a future career by giving me the opportunity to work in a real life work setting that is in my area of interest. Working in grain operations has allowed me to try out a position that I might want to be involved with in the future.

What are you most looking forward to this summer? I am looking forward to getting out in the field more and learning about some of the different agricultural areas such as agronomy and field application.
