Riley Kindwall: Crop Scouting/Soil Sampling Intern

20160613_maxyield_224Meet Riley Kindwall, MaxYield’s Crop Scouting and Soil Sampling Intern.

Where do you call home?

I am from Belmond, Iowa where I was active in agriculture with my family.

What is your major and why?

I am currently attending school at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) where I am preparing to transfer to Iowa State University and study Agricultural Business. I have been involved in agriculture my whole life and wanted to learn more about the business aspect of the industry. My background and interests led me to Agricultural Business at Iowa State, and I am excited to see where that major takes me after I graduate.

How did you hear about MaxYield’s internship program and why did you apply?

I learned about MaxYield’s internship program through the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Career Fair. What differentiated MaxYield from other companies was that they were friendly and took the time to explain the structure of the MaxYield internship program to me. I learned about the duties and responsibilities of the internship, and after talking to Kody Trampel and Chad Meyer, I knew that I would enjoy being a summer intern with MaxYield.

What are some goals you have during your internship?

This summer my main goal is to increase my skills in crop scouting and agronomy. I hope to learn more about weed and insect identification, as well as learning what chemicals to use and how to properly apply the chemical. I am confident that the skills I learn at MaxYield will help me to be more knowledgeable about the agriculture industry as a whole.

What are some of your favorite pastimes?

I enjoy spending time outside, especially hunting and fishing. I also like to shoot trap and I enjoy a good game of golf.
