What Beginning or Retiring Farmers need to know about tax credits and loan programs

Whether you are starting your farming career or wrapping it up, there are all kinds of issues to consider. The Kossuth County Extension will hold a meeting on March 20th from 6:00-9:00pm at Water’s Edge Nature Center, Algona, IA. Topics of discussion will include: tax credits, loans and resources to help those interested in learning more about farm transitioning.

Many people are not aware of the opportunities to receive significant tax credits for renting to a beginning farmer or tax credits for selling land to beginning farmers. Beginning farmers may not be aware of the many opportunities to access financing from a variety of sources. Recent changes in the laws have made it easier for those that want to participate.

Speakers for the program will be Steve Ferguson from the Iowa Finance Authority, Ron Matz from the Kossuth County Farm Service Agency, Val Weis from Farm Credit Services of America and Kelvin Leibold, Iowa State University Farm Management Specialist,.

Please register in advance as a meal will be provided. The registration fee is $10. Call 515-295-2469 by March 17th.
